Story of Willem
"I really had tears in my eyes!"
The 4Days Marches of Nijmegen, the world’s largest multi-day walking event, taking place this year from 15 to 18 July, will open registration for its 107th edition on 24 February 2025. This unique event, where enjoyment and achievement come together, annually welcomes tens of thousands of walkers from the Netherlands and abroad. This year, the organization introduces new improvements for an optimal walking experience.
As in previous years, registration will occur in two periods:
Compared to 2024, the duration of Period 1 has been adjusted, and only successful participants from the past 20 years are eligible. March Leader Henny Sackers explains: “With this small adjustment, we aim for a healthy balance between our loyal participants and new walkers. By rewarding loyal walkers in this way, we strengthen their bond with our event. At the same time, we want to give new walkers a fair chance to register in Period 2, so they too can experience the unique atmosphere of the 4Days Marches.”
The complete registration regulations are available at http://www.4daagse.nl/en. Separate conditions apply to military participants, which are also outlined on the website.
As in previous years, it will be possible to transfer a ticket. From five business days after the maximum number of participants is reached until Friday 13 June 2025, at 17.00 hrs CET, participants can transfer their entry pass (excluding administration costs) via the official platform of Stichting DE 4DAAGSE. Transfers via other methods are not permitted.
“With insights from research, we have made important decisions for the 107th edition of the 4Days Marches. We continue to work on an event that centers on its unique atmosphere and enjoyment, while implementing improvements where needed,” says March Leader Henny Sackers. For example, the starting groups ‘Wandelschoen’ and ‘Gladiool’ for the 30- and 40-kilometer distances will not return this year. Extensive analysis shows that their removal has had little to no impact on congestion along the route. However, the organization continues to work diligently on improving the starting procedure, better distribution of walkers on the routes, and easing congestion at key points. “Walkers appreciate the flexibility to choose their own starting time and the ability to walk alongside a partner,” says Sackers. “The 4Days Marches remains a busy event, but it is precisely this lively atmosphere that makes it so special.”
The organization is also working towards a redesign of the start and finish area at the Wedren. Based on research, there will be a focus on better distribution of participants during both the start and finish, more shaded seating areas, and a practical layout for partner, sponsor, and volunteer locations. “A more efficient setup of the Wedren contributes to smoother flows and a pleasant experience for everyone involved,” says Sackers. “And, of course, there will still be plenty of room for celebrations after each walking day – an essential element of the 4Days Marches experience.”
The registration fee for the 4Days Marches this year is €120 (an increase of 4.35% compared to 2024). This rise is due to inflation adjustments and higher costs resulting from changes in laws and regulations.
