Story of Dirk
'Unbelievable, that flood of good feeling, from everyone.'
Tomorrow, the last day of the 4Daagse, high temperatures are expected in the afternoon. Because the temperature is at its highest between 15.00 and 18.00 pm and because this overlaps the festive entry on the Via Gladiola, the board of Stichting DE 4DAAGSE has decided to take measures, including shortening of routes.
Adjustments
The adjustments are as follows:
- The 50km participants will walk the 40km route
- The 40km participants will walk the 30km route
- The 30km participants will walk the 20km route
- For military personnel the requirement to carry 10 kilograms of marching kit is no longer applicable, the walking distance remains the same
Additional signs will be placed for the new 20km route. 50km participants should follow the signs for the 40km route; 40km participants should follow the 30km route.
Important information:
- The starting times do not change.
- It is possible to finish and receive the reward from 10:00 am.
- The latest finish time remains 18.00 pm
- There will be a medical care station on the route of the 20km, in Molenhoek at the Lierdal Sportcenter.
- Additional water supplies will be made available at the beginning of the Via Gladiola (after Malden) and at the finish on the Wedren.
Tips
Professor of physiology Maria Hopman shares some important tips for the heat: “Keep eating and drinking well along the way. Remember to include sufficient sugars and salts. And as soon as you have to wait somewhere, both en route and at the finish area: keep moving. Of course walkers will want to raise their glass to celebrate the end of the Marches, but please be careful with your alcohol intake when temperatures are high.”
We kindly ask you to read this information carefully and start your walk well prepared. We look forward to greeting you at the end of the Via Gladiola.
